What is the Delonghi EC860 about?

Delonghi EC860 ReviewThe most important thing that we have to mention in the beginning of our Delonghi EC860 review is the size of this brewer. It is an espresso and cappuccino machine, and it has the most compact size considering its abilities. Measuring just 10.6” x 12.2” x 12”, it is perfect for smaller kitchens. It can also fit nicely the households with not many people in them. Moreover, it weighs no more than 15.4 pounds. This that you can practically put it anywhere, and it will serve its purpose perfectly.

Also, considering that the Dedica (Delonghi EC860) is only a small and frankly, budget friendly brewer, it is only reasonable that we’d mention that it is a 15-bar brewer.

How does the Delonghi EC860 look & feel like?

Before writing our own Delonghi EC860 review, we did some research and found that people aren’t too fond of the design. However, we think that this brewer has nice looks. Although it isn’t anything too special, it is perfect for simple kitchens. It has a brushed stainless steel finish on the front, and it has a completely metal top. We found that this makes the unit pretty durable and resistant to scratching. This, in the long run, makes the design pretty effective and efficient.

Also, regarding the design, we also noticed how it is made from high quality parts, yet the unit is pretty light. So, it is a win-win situation. It is pretty easy to move around when you want to clean your kitchen thoroughly, yet, it doesn’t get damaged easily.

But don’t take this for granted – as a budget-friendly option, this unit can get damaged if you don’t invest the time to care for it. So, maintain it good.

Most important features of the Delonghi EC860

Before deciding on whether you should buy the EC860 for yourself, here is what you need to know.

Reservoir

The thing about the EC860 is that, when they created it, they probably thought of single people. Or at least people who live on their own. It simply has a small reservoir. So, if you drink a lot of coffee or if you live in a household full of coffee-drinkers, this isn’t your coffee maker, at least not in terms of a great water tank.

This doesn’t mean that the 860 won’t brew the coffee, it will and it will do so perfectly. However, with its 36-ounce reservoir, you’ll be quite irritated by the need of refilling it over and over again. Still, if you live on your own, you’ll enjoy its humble reservoir capacity.

Grinder

Considering the fact that the Delonghi EC860 is a semi-automatic machine, you know that you can’t expect too much i.e. a built-in grinder. However, for a budget friendly option, it is a still worthy unit.

The Delonghi EC860 doesn’t come with a built-in grinder, so you’ll have to get that one separately. Or, you can get a super-automatic machine that will do it all.

And look on the bright side – no grinder, no extra noise!

The Boiler System

Again, considering that this is a budget-friendly, small, space-friendly espresso machine, you probably won’t be surprised to learn that it only has one boiler. With its compact size however, there isn’t enough place for a second one either. Nevertheless, the single boiler does a perfect job by itself. It is made of aluminum and has stainless steel on it as well. So, with the great Thermoblock tech, it still does a great job at heating your coffee in a time-friendly manner, and it saves you a lot of time.

Of course, it will take you longer to make a milk-based drink like macchiato for example. Still, it is great for having coffee in a really reasonable amount of time, like the mornings when you can’t seem to be able to open your eyes.

Portafileter

This is something that caught our attention. Although the unit doesn’t have a telescoping coffee spigot, it uses a great portafilter. It fills with fresh ground coffee, it tamps it, and inserts it into the machine right away. This brings you a nice coffee extract with a rich taste and an amazing smell.

Cup Warming Tray

Another great thing about the EC860 brewer is the great cup warming tray. This feature surely comes in quite handy especially in cold winter mornings. The tray uses passive heating, and regardless of how cold your cup is, the unit will heat up the cup right away. This ultimately leads to you having a nice, fresh-tasting cup of coffee at the right temperature. So, even if you don’t get this brewer, make sure to look for a cup-warming tray.

Maintenance of the EC860

Last but not least, in our Delonghi EC860 review we have to note the maintenance. Keeping your espresso machine clean will do great things for its longevity, which is why we put extra attention to it. Luckily for all of us, we bring good news. The Delonghi machines are absolutely some of the best ones to keep clean.

Delonghi EC860 Review

By purchasing it, you get a descaling agent, and you also get an auto-frother for easy cleaning. Moreover, the unit also features a nice cleaning feature which is built into it. So, whenever you have a milk-based drink, just use the auto-frother and you are good to go. This is basically a cleaning button you can find on the front of the carafe, and it cleans your machine right away.

Another thing we noticed is the easy-to-remove parts, which makes it really easy to keep the unit clean altogether. So, don’t worry about this part.
